These are most of the Parent jobs needed to make the team work each year:
Game Day Jobs
Field Setup: (For home games only). Get or bring the scorer's table, 2 chairs, scoreboard box, and timing equipment bag from the bring to the field. Ensure the goals are set up on the field, set up the marker cones (supplied by the coach) are at the four corners of the field, the mid-field, and the substitution box, and at least 6 balls are placed on each endline within 3-5 feet of the endline.
Also performs the Timer's duties during the game (see below).
At the end of the game: Retrieve the cones and endline balls, ask 3 - 5 of our Redhawk players to assist in picking up trash around the field and placing all trash in the bags provided and disposing of it. Also assist in breaking down the scorer's table and chairs, etc. Ensure that our players move the goals back by the west side of the school.
Timer: Keeps track of the game clock and times individual player penalties using the time clocks provided. Also responsible for charging the air horn before and during the game and using the horn we requested by referees and at the end of each period. Assists the Field Setup person with setting up the field and scorer's equipment before the game and cleaning up equipment and the field after the game. For tournament games, we may need to provide one timer for the game with the opposing team providing the other timer.
Stats & Water jug: Keeps the stats for both teams - goals, assists, ground balls, penalties, etc in the scorebook provide by the coach. Assists the Field Setup person with setting up the field and scorer's equipment before the game and cleaning up equipment and the field after the game.
The club has purchased a water jug for each team for the season to be used during games. Collect the water jug after a game when you are responsible for it for the next game. On game day, fill the jug with ice and water and bring to game. Pass the jug onto the next family or player after the game.
Stats & Ice & Oranges: Keeps the stats for both teams - goals, assists, ground balls, penalties, etc in the scorebook provide by the coach. Assists the Field Setup person with setting up the field and scorer's equipment before the game and cleaning up equipment and the field after the game.
Provides oranges for the team (25+ players) cut up in quarters in a zip-lock bag. Also needs to bring a 7 - 10 pound bag of ice that can be used as ice packs. A small cooler is good for this.
Ball Retriever: Sits at one endline (out of bounds behind the goal) during the entire game and ensures that enough game balls are available and spread out near the endline during the game (these must be collected and returned to the endline after a ball leaves the field). Two (2) ball retrievers are needed for each HOME game and one (1) may be needed during tournament games, with the opposing team providing the other retriever.
Field Marking: Weekly or as needed, marks the game and practice fields at Madision Junior High. Also, keeps track of the club's supply of field marking paint and orders more when needed.
Game Video: Takes game video for use by coaches for future discussion and training. Will need to provide own equipment.
Game Articles (for website, newsletter, and newspapers): Develops and publishes game summaries for the club's website, newsletter, and local newspapers.
Photographs: Takes game photos and publishes them on the club's website for distribution to players and parents. Also takes team photos for yearbook.
Team Coordinator: Liason between the parent board and coaches and an individual team (Varsity, Junior Varsity, Frosh)
General Team Jobs
Parent Board: The governing body for the club which directs coach hiring decisions, registration fees, expenditures, and general operations of the club. The parent board meets every 3rd Monday of each month at NCHS and at other times from January to May during the season.
Treasurer: Handles the club's bookkeeping, budgeting, making deposits and handling disbursements authorized by the parent board.VP Communications: Responsible for coordinating all the club's communications including website, email, and any paper announcements. Ensures that the cancellation hotline with the school is operational. Maintains the club's email distribution lists for player, parents, parent board, and coaches and periodically sends email announcements to appropriate groups when needed.
Website (updating content): Responsible for publishing content (web pages) on the club's internet website. Does not need to know HTML or any computer programming language. Must have the time to spend 30 minutes three times a week updating the club's website.
Newsletter: Organizes and electonically publishes a one or two page newsletter approximately every other week between February and June. Newsletters are published on the club's website or can be emailed to the club's membership. Articles can come from games, parent board, and coaches.
Registration (for next season): Coordinates the registration process for the club. Includes developing or updating forms, getting forms published on club's website, holding registration meetings in November and December, collecting forms and fees, and fiing each player's physical form and NCHS Athletic permission form with the NCHS Athletics office, and perparing 3 team binders for the coaches with each player's emergency information and club waiver form (for emergencies). Other duties inlcude club participation at the 8th grade orientation nights in January.
Uniform Coordinator (for next season): Coordinates uniform and practice penny pricing and delivery times by October before registration starts. Accepts uniform and practice penny orders in December so that practice pennies will be delivered before the first practice in February and that the uniforms will be delivered before the first game in March or early April. Also assigns uniform numbers to new players and keeps track of all uniform numbers registered to current and previous players.
Spirit / Team Wear (for next season): Coordinates with the NCHS Booster Club and a sports clothing store for lacrosse merchandise to be purchased by players and parents. Coordinates publicity and deadlines, places order and makes arrangements for distributing items when they arrive.
Fundraising: Coordinates the club's fundraising activities to help players and parents reduce their fees for the club. Past activities include ButterBraids bakery sales, Ribfest Parking volunteers, and Jewel Shop n Share days.
Ribfest Parking Coordinator (main fundraising activity): Coordinates player and parent volunteers from the club to work at the different locations for VIP parking at Naperville's Ribfest event over July 4th. Also includes communicating with Ribfest officials in the spring and each day that the club is working.
Year End Awards Party: Coordinates end of season party for the club. Determines location, style (catered or potluck), menu, setup, decorations, and cleanup.
Awards Coordinator: Coordinates player end of season awards (letters, pins, etc) with coaches. Orders awards in time to be presented at end of season banquet.
Awards Coordinator: Responsible for maintaining a history of awards won by players and ordering awards for the end of season party. These includes letters and pins for lacrosse.
